FAQS

Email: misc@misaddleclub.org if you have any questions

Q:  Does the club offer riding lessons?
A:  The club itself does not offer lessons.  However, independent trainers offering a variety of riding disciplines (Western, English, jumping) do teach at the club.  Interested students may contact trainers listed on this site. Students/riders must join the club to ride or take lessons there.

Q:  May I board a horse at the club?
A:  The barn can board up to 20 horses and is full now.  The club maintains a stall waiting list for those who would like to rent one of our stalls.  The list is approximately 8 years long at this time and one must be a member of the barn to be on the waiting list.

Q:  May I participate in your shows if I am not a member?
A:   Yes.  See our Event Calendar for a schedule.  .

Q:  May I attend your horse shows as a spectator?
A:  Yes, you are welcome to come join the fun!  Shows are free of charge, although we operate a concession stand to help raise money for club activities.  Spectators are asked to observe caution around horses, which can be unpredictable and dangerous.  Spectators may observe the show from the bleachers and surrounding spectator area.  Loud noises and sudden movements can startle horses, so we ask that spectators do their moving about between the various classes/events.

Q:  What do you do with all that manure?
A:  We compost some of it and give it away to gardeners.  You may pick up composted manure anytime during daylight hours at the club.  The composted manure is located just to the left of our entry gate on Island Crest Way, and is contained in wooden pallets.  Laminated signs mark the manure that is "ready" or that which is still cooking/rotting.  Please bring your own shovels and containers.  The compost is 90 percent to 95 percent horse manure, with a bit of wood shavings and sand/gravel from the horses' stalls and paddocks.  We usually have amounts ranging from 60 cubic feet and down available, but it can disappear quickly. Our goal is to have a constant supply of ready-to-go, already composted manure available.  If you would like to know more about the compost, please call 275-0965.

Q: Does MISC offer summer camps?

A: MISC does not directly run any summer camps, but the independent riding instructors who teach on our facility may provide summer camps for young riders. Please contact the trainers directly for information about summer camps (not MISC). See posted dates of summer camps under the "trainers" page.

Q: Are there any horses for lease?

A: Horses are leased by their owners (all horses are privately owned at MISC). The best way to see if one is available for lease is to visit our barn, see if any signs are posted, and/or talk with one of the members of the barn about if they know of any horses available.

Q: Is MISC looking to hire employees? Does MISC want volunteers? (also info if you are interested in cleaning stalls)

A: MISC is a cooperative non-profit club, so it is supported by the volunteer work of the members. We do not hire people for horse care because all horses are privately owned and are taken care of by their owners. If you are interested in stall cleaning/general horse care, you are welcome to post a sign on one of the bulletin boards at MISC to advertise your services, in which case a barn member may call you. If you are interested in volunteering at MISC, we would always appreciate help with general maintenance of the grounds, such as weeding, fixing fences, cleaning out certain areas, etc. please contact us and we would be happy to give you a job to do; since horses are privately owned and any volunteer work that involves horses would be at the discretion of the owner, MISC does not organize such volunteer work.
