The Mercer Island Saddle Club offers composted horse manure to gardeners free of charge year round. The club uses a hot composting method to speed the rotting of the manure, which is offered to the public roughly every two months. Besides horse manure, the compost contains small amounts (around 5 percent) of wood shavings from the horses’ stalls and sandy gravel from the paddocks and grounds.
 

Gardeners may pick up the compost at the Club grounds seven days a week during daylight hours. The club entrance is on the right side of Island Crest Way, just south of the intersection of Island Crest Way and 68^th Street. The compost is contained in wood pallet “bins” just to the left of the entrance gate. Please bring your own shovels and containers.
